Underwriting Manager

Summary:
Manages Capital Public Radio's underwriting program. This includes overseeing and participating in renewal of existing contracts and prospecting for new underwriters. Responsible for establishing underwriting packages and setting rates, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations, and integration of underwriting with traffic systems. Identifies new opportunities for corporate sponsorships such as online and mobile opportunities, event sponsorships, and more. Works with the Director of Foundation & Corporate Development to meet the revenue goals of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
* Works with the underwriting team and the Director of Foundation & Corporate Development to meet annual goals.
* Manages a personal portfolio of underwriting clients and participates in all aspects of underwriting sales.
* Communication with underwriters is well organized and managed.
* Special underwriting opportunities are identified that are unique, and that benefit the underwriter and CPR in new and interesting ways.
* Ensures Underwriting Policy, FCC regulation, and any other pertinent policies, are followed, with a special emphasis on the acceptable wording of underwriting credits.
* Understands and utilizes Traffic System (Marketron) for entering and scheduling underwriting contracts.
* Regularly participates in business events such as Chamber of Commerce meetings, etc.
* Directs the recruitment, training and development of underwriting sale staff consistent with Capital Public Radio values.
* Enlists the involvement of members of Capital Public Radio staff to successfully meet underwriting goals. Involves others as needed in underwriting efforts.
* Develops personal skills and characteristics that model what is desired in all employees.
* Involved in ongoing professional development for the benefit of Capital Public Radio.

In short, the new General Manager should be able to guide and lead WFUV to ever-greater prominence and preeminence.

KCUR is an NPR member station with a staff of approximately 30 full time employees and an annual budget of $3.5 million. Of the 150,000 weekly listeners KCUR serves in the region, approximately 11,000 individuals provide annual contributions to support our work. Local Corporate Sponsorship (LCS) is part of the Corporate Sponsorship division. The department is responsible for securing sponsorship from the New England business community. Local Corporate Sponsorship raises revenue through sponsorship of television, radio, online, print, events and pledge. The staff includes sales, marketing, research, client service and trafficking personnel.

Position Overview
The Account Executive is responsible for securing revenue from local businesses and advertising agencies through sponsorship of WGBH TV, radio, online, print and events with an emphasis on creating and securing sponsorship for multimedia packages. New business development is a key requirement. The position will report to the General Sales Manager.

STATION MISSION

OVERVIEW OF THIS POSITION

The Station Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the station including the coordination of staff. The Station Manager is encouraged to maintain an open-door policy with staff, volunteers, and community.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management

* Prepare and present annual budget to NBS Board. Regularly monitor and comply with budget established by the Board.

Station Administration

* Ensure that all the station’s policies and processes are followed, including planning, evaluation, complaints, grievance procedures and maintenance of station files.
* Speak publicly on behalf of WMNF and serve as official station representative.
* Ensure compliance with regulations, guidelines, and standards of the FCC, CPB, IRS, and other appropriate licensing and qualifying organizations.
* Ensure compliance with grant requirements.

Staff Management

* Responsible for hiring, development, evaluation, and termination of staff personnel according to station policies and procedures.
* Facilitate staff participation through regular staff meetings in the station’s planning, evaluation and staff priority process.
* Make recommendations to the Board of Directors on staffing levels and responsibilities.
* Oversee staff employed on specific projects. Fundraising
* Participate actively in fundraising activities including on-air, other station and public events.
* Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations and businesses in order to maximize fundraising opportunities.
* Oversee the work of the station’s Development Director which includes membership development planning, grant writing and reporting, donor cultivation and recognition.
* Share responsibility with and provide leadership to staff to assure sufficient funds are available for station operations.

Broadcast Programming and Training

* Consult regularly with Program Director, News and Public Affairs Director, and Volunteer Coordinator to stay abreast of programming and training issues and to review and develop policy.
* Coordinate the resolution of problems in programming and training administration.
* Ensure that Staff, Board, and Volunteer constituencies are informed and empowered. Technical
* Oversee technical staff and technical priorities.
* In conjunction with the Technical Staff provide information and make recommendations to the Board on future technical and equipment requirements.
