DEI has no upcoming scheduled campaigns at this time. On an ongoing basis, DEI develops and tests innovative ideas that bring stations, content producers, and vendors together to bring new revenue to stations. We will post participation information for upcoming ventures here, as appropriate.
To provide a sense of the types of opportunities that DEI explores, following is a description of our recent "Best of Public Radio" campaign.
What’s "The Best of Public Radio" 2010?
It’s a broadcast special featuring some of the best national programming from the past year, designed to encourage listeners to support their local public radio stations with a contribution at the central website GiveToPublicRadio.org. Your station broadcasts the special, and the central website provides links directly to your local station's web pledge page. We also provide a central toll-free number for those donors who prefer to call in their pledges.
The goal of this project is to help stations raise more money and acquire more new donors with less staff time and expense than a typical fund drive. NPR, American Public Media, and Public Radio International collaborated on behalf of stations to help create "The Best of Public Radio" 2010.
What is DEI's Role?
DEI is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to serving public radio stations. DEI processes contributions for participating stations as part of "The Best of Public Radio" 2010. DEI does not keep any part of a donor's contribution. The entire donation, minus a standard credit card merchant processing fee, goes to your station.
How will a contribution be listed on my donor's credit card statement?
Donors will see the amount of their contribution charged to DEI/Best Public Radio.
How do donors make their contributions?
They can give online at GiveToPublicRadio.org. They will be prompted to select your station from the list and will be redirected to your website. They also can call 888-814-1555, or contribute to your station online by accessing your website directly, or send a gift to your station’s mailing address.
Will all of the money go to my station?
Yes. The entire contribution, minus a standard credit card merchant processing fee, goes to your station.
Will donors' names go on someone else’s mailing list?
Donors might receive an e-mail inviting them to participate in a survey about "The Best of Public Radio" 2010. They will not be asked for an additional contribution if they choose to participate in the survey.
Their names will become part of your station’s donor file and should be subject to the same protection and restrictions that you afford all donors.
Aside from these uses, donors' names will not be given to or used by NPR, APM, PRI, DEI, or any other organization for any purpose.
Whom can donors contact with questions about their contributions?
Donors should contact the membership or listener service department at your station.
Is the entire gift tax-deductible?
Yes. The e-mail that each donor receives after giving serves as a tax receipt.
Can donors pay by installments or become a sustaining giver?
Installments are not an option through GiveToPublicRadio.org, and an installment gift would not be tax deductible in 2011. To pay by installments, donors should consult your station’s website. We suggest providing information on your web pledge page.
Why air this special, instead of our regularly scheduled programs?
Broadcasting "The Best of Public Radio" 2010 gives you the chance to raise money and highlight great stories without interrupting the news.
Donors will hear the names of programs that aren’t broadcast on my station. Will we be implying these programs are going to be added to our schedule?
That’s up to your station, but we would suggest not worrying unnecessarily. "The Best of Public Radio" 2010 is a national program created to highlight interesting stories and interviews, no matter where they first aired. None of the participating stations broadcast all of the programs included in this special.
Can listeners hear "The Best of Public Radio" 2010 on-line or buy a copy of the entire special?
No, but they will be directed to links to the stories they've heard in the special after they make a contribution.
